Welcome
Greetings and Happy New Year! We are excited to bring you our very first Newsletter. It was just 8 years ago that we opened our doors to start Gingerbread Traditions. I had been hosting gingerbread decorating parties for friends and families for several years when someone said to me "this is so much fun you should start a business!" A seed was planted! Every year I am amazed by the stories I hear about the enjoyment of decorating your very own authentic and unique gingerbread house brings to your family and friends. For many of you the holidays would not be complete without a fun-filled evening spent decorating a gingerbread house. Cheryl Gingerbread is not just for the Holidays The fun doesn't have to stop with the holidays. We currently have houses designed specifically for Valentines Day (Valentine Cabin and our Sweetheart Cottage), It's a Dog's Life (dog and puppy houses), and Halloween (chocolate gingerbread house). This spring, look for our new Wild Wild West Fort and Once Upon a Time Castle (made from a sugar cookie dough) for kids parties. We have a tradition of offering products for all occasions * An evening with the family * Community Gatherings Need Cookies? We can take care of all of your special cookie needs for school parties and other special events. Call or email us for details. |

* The two main issues people run into while trying to make cut out cookies is that the dough stretches out of shape while trying to move the cookie onto the baking sheet and the dough sticking to the board. A way to solve both issues is to roll the dough out onto a board covered in parchment paper. The cookies get cut out and the excess dough picked up from around the cookies. You never have to touch the cookies. Just slide the parchment onto the cookie sheet and bake. When using a large cutter roll and cut each cookie out individually. Make the parchment about 2-3 inches larger than the actual cookie. * There are many creative ways to decorate cookies. Here are a few tips to help you successfully decorate a sugar cookie. * Decorate before baking your cookies. I like to use colored sugar sprinkles, jimmies, M & M's, non-pareils, nuts, cranberries, and other small decorative sprinkles. * Add food coloring to your dough or paint an edible glaze made out of an egg yolk mixed with a couple drops of coloring. * Decorate cookies after baking. You will need to make an icing to be able to decorate your cookies after baking. You can either use a butter cream frosting (which will remain soft) or a icing like royal icing (see web-site for royal icing recipe under tips and tricks) that will dry hard in a couple of hours. All decorations will need to be applied before the frosting/icing dries. * The sky is the limit on decorations for your cookies. I like to look in various candy stores for unique candies to use for the different holidays. * A simple way to dress up a plain cookie is to drizzle chocolate. The tricky part is in the melting of the chocolate. The easiest way I have found to do this is to place the chocolate and shortening (add 2 tablespoons shortening to 1 cup of chocolate chips or chopped baking chocolate) in a microwave bowl on medium heat for 1 min |
